Welcome to an international and socially engaged department with researchers and staff from across the world. We offer education in economics and statistics led by highly qualified and dedicated researchers. Our department conducts research in areas such as environmental, development, behavioral and financial economics. We put sustainability high on the agenda as reflected in several of our courses.
Economics is a social science subject focusing on how the economy of society functions. Economists use theory and empirical methods to study behaviour at the individual, firm and country level. Many of today's complex problems require insights from other disciplines and economics therefore borrows knowledge from subjects as psychology and political science. There is a broad labour market for economists with a wide variety of tasks both in private industry and the public sector.
Statistics includes the planning, processing and analysis of data from various types of surveys. There is a great demand for statisticians with a social science background in the labour market. The subject is also advisable to study as a supplement to other courses.
